Bad Credit: Tips To Fix!

Do you have bad credit? If so, it is time to work on fixing it. Many people have fallen into credit traps or haven’t been educated properly about how to use credit in the first place. Quickly, they find themselves struggling to make monthly payments and dread an emergency happening. Yet, bad credit doesn’t have to be a lifetime disease that takes over. In fact, it is quite sensible for you to invest the time and money into securing credit that will help you to rebuild your current credit situation.

To do this, there are several things to consider starting with your outlook on money. If you see money as something that is there to spend, you will quickly find credit to be a trap that will push you deeper and deeper into the hole. Instead, look at money as something that makes things possible but is limited. This way, when you make each and every decision (or purchase) you have to make, you make the right one.

Start With Understanding

To get started, take some time to determine your current situation:

  • Write down these things. Find out how much you owe to credit cards. Find out what the interest rate on each of those lines of credit is. Write down the due date of payments for each one as well. Your concerns are those that have high balances, those that are late and those with the highest interest rates on them.
  • What do you bring in and where does it go? Determining this can be a true eye opener. Dedicate yourself to learning this as it will be the first step to solving your credit problems. Carry a pocket notebook with you and write down anything and everything you purchase in a standard month. Even the cup of coffee you stop for each morning. This will help you to create a budget which will keep your spending under control and therefore allow you to pay down your credit cards faster.
  • Do you have enough to pay for all the expenses that you have? If not, find ways to lessen your costs. Cut out the cable, the trip to the movies or even the cell phones until you put things back together. Or, consider getting in some overtime. Remember, paying just the minimum on credit cards is not going to fix your problem. You need to pay them down faster to get out of debt.

Now, Look To Credit

Did you know that if you are responsible with money fixing your bad credit can start with new credit? If you can really trust yourself to use it wisely, using new credit can help you to fix the old credit problems. To do this successfully, you will need to do what was mentioned above first. This will give you a clear picture on what is happening with your credit and help you to improve overall.

Then, consider these tips.

  1. Find a 0% introductory rate credit line that you qualify for. If you transfer your balances of your other credit cards to this new 0% intro rate (make sure it is 0% on balance transfers too,) you will ultimately save a great deal. Pay off the balance in that timeframe, you will find even greater savings.
  1. Start a new line of credit to improve your bad credit score. To do this, use your new credit card only for small purchases and pay it off every month on time. Don’t make mistakes such as allowing yourself to miss a payment or to forget about it. It just won’t help. Instead, keep this card as close to a zero balance as possible to show that you have a good credit ratio (credit revolving to credit available.)
  1. Make your payments on time. Don’t go over the credit limit. Don’t wait until the last minute to make a payment. Doing these things will drastically improve your credit.

Work on these things carefully as that will allow you to best overall benefit to improving your credit in the end. When you work on both lowering your current debt and working to rebuild new, solid credit, your bad credit will come in faster and more successfully.
