Chase says hello to Michigan April 24 Bank One changes its name at 258 branches

Detroit, April 17, 2006 - Chase says hello to Michigan next week as 258 Bank One branches in the state are changed to Chase, the consumer and commercial banking brand of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM).

The name change results from the 2004 merger of Bank One with JPMorgan Chase. The April 24 brand change in Michigan and Florida completes the shift to the Chase brand of more than 1,900 Bank One branches in 17 states.

"The switch to Chase brings more resources and more convenience to our Michigan customers," said Dick Wade, president of Chase in Michigan. "Chase's Michigan branch network will grow to 280 locations by the end of the year, which means we're also hiring 200 employees. Over a 12-month period, we'll strengthen our branch network with 23 new locations in Meijer stores, 11 new freestanding branches and at least 30 new ATMs."

Chase predecessor Chase National Bank was founded in 1877 and named after Salmon P. Chase, Treasury Secretary under President Abraham Lincoln and chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. JPMorgan Chase traces its history to the 1799 founding of the Bank of the Manhattan Company in New York City. Its Michigan network was established by the former National Bank of Detroit founded in 1933.

Some 5,500 signs in Michigan will change to Chase as part of the rebranding effort, and the official shift to Chase occurs Monday, April 24. Customers in Michigan also will see the Chase brand highlighted in a major marketing and advertising campaign in the coming weeks - and will have a chance to win a six-day, five-night Walt Disney World vacation for four people. It includes deluxe Disney hotel accommodations, dining, recreation, theme park tickets, air travel and other amenities.

Marketing blitz

Chase kicks off its advertising campaign April 17 with a 30-second television commercial that invites current and new customers to come into the bank's offices and say "Hello" to the new brand. The commercial is set to a rendition of the Beatles' 1967 hit song, "Hello, Goodbye." Starting in May, commercials will highlight Chase's products and services.

To celebrate the new brand in Michigan, Chase will give consumers the chance to win one of three six-day, five-night Walt Disney World vacations or one of 50 $100 Disney Gift Cards. Consumers can visit any Chase branch in Michigan for a chance to win a Walt Disney World dream vacation from Chase.

Making it easy for customers

Customers should continue to use their Bank One checks and received Chase-branded ATM and debit cards in March. Customers will receive Chase-branded checks when they place a new order. Online banking customers switched to www.Chase.com on March 26.

"The transition to the Chase brand should be smooth and easy for our customers," Wade said. "Through our merger, customers now have access to more than 7,300 ATMs across the country as well as improved products and services. Now we're moving to the Chase name on our signs here."

Improved products and services available to Chase consumer and commercial customers include:

  • Expanded mortgage products from Chase, one of the nation's leading mortgage companies
  • Payments on Chase loans accepted at all Chase and Bank One branches (including credit cards, mortgages and car loans)
  • Free access to more than 7,300 ATMs nationwide (and 380 in Michigan)
  • A broader array of products for businesses of all sizes
  • Larger and quicker loans through syndication for commercial customers
  • Greater international presence for commercial banking customers
  • More sophisticated investment-planning products at all levels, including JPMorgan mutual funds
  • Expanded products and services for high-net-worth customers through JPMorgan Private Client Services and JPMorgan Private Bank
